kiddo in my daughter's class tested positive. my daughter wears a mask all the time (the ONLY ONE in her class) but they all did eat lunch together inside (obv no mask then to get the food into her) and she sat with the now-positive-test kiddo. ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. she's also already had covid and is vaxxed and boosted so she's pretty low risk for getting it but we are now trying to sort out if we need to mask at home. ughhhhhhhhhh

@serenebabe the masks prevent transmission, not contraction. If she's the only one wearing the mask, she's the only one not spreading. But she can still contract. If she's vaxxed and boosted and has previously had it. She's got fairly low risk factors. But if you are guilty concerned it would be your daughter who would have to mask at home to prevent transmission. There is nothing gained in the rest of you wearing them.

@Adultxtraffic that sounds like you’ve got some incorrect information. masks definitely protect against contracting!

@serenebabe years of medical school wasted I guess. The standard n97 masks offer little to no close quarters protection from contraction. It do stop up to 97 percent of exhaled particulate matter. You can wear them. But the comfort is personal not scientific. We have over a century of research showing they are to prevent spread. And a few hundred unratified niche studies that started during COVID that say they prevent contraction. That's not reliable data.

@serenebabe I know my profile is adult based and has a sexy image. But at my core I am a scientist with multiple college level certifications and these studies offer a lot of unverified promises that can cause harm. Making you feel safe when you are not. You need a fully sealed, hazmat style facemask to prevent contraction. Period. There is not enough room here to explain why real science says this. Wearing mask stops spread at source not recipient.

@serenebabe this conversation has reached its organic end. I have no issues with you choosing to wear a mask. It will stop you spreading what you pick up. But if you think you can sit in a room with people who have COVID and it will protect you, you are mistaken. You asked for people's opinions on what you should do as a medically trained individual I responded. You then told me I was wrong, so I guess you didn't really want input.

@Adultxtraffic I didn’t look at your profile (still haven’t). Your information is incorrect. I agree with your next post, we’ve got nothing more to discuss! thanks for your reply.
